About Alefiya
Photographer. Artist. Mom
I’m Alefiya Akbarally, an award-winning photographer, artist and mom of two girls, based in Houston.
Photography has taken me around the world. I studied at the London College of Communication and have lived and worked across Asia, Australia, Europe and the United States. My work has appeared in publications including Vogue Australia and The British Journal of Photography, and I’ve been fortunate to receive international recognition, including a Black & White Spider Award.
But these days, some of my favorite subjects are much closer to home.
Why I love photographing seniors
As a mom to two daughters, I’m very aware of how quickly childhood changes into independence. Senior year sits right in the middle of that transformation—and I think it deserves to be documented beautifully.
I want my seniors to look at their photographs and see themselves: confident, individual and completely at ease. And I want their parents to have something more timeless—a portrait of their child at an age they’ll never quite be again.
Editorial style. Genuine connection
My years in editorial, fashion and fine-art photography influence the way I photograph every senior. I’m drawn to beautiful light, interesting locations, movement and images that feel polished without ever feeling overly posed.
You don’t need to know how to pose or be “good in front of a camera.” That’s my job. I’ll guide you through everything so the experience feels relaxed, fun and completely personal.
A little more about me
Houston is home, where I live with my husband, our two daughters, Iman and Amira, and our chocolate Lab, Coco.
I still love art, museums, travel, beautiful books and discovering interesting corners of Houston—and I’m forever seeing places and thinking, that would make an incredible photograph.
After all these years behind a camera, that curiosity hasn't changed.
My goal is simple: to give you a wonderful experience and create portraits that feel like you now—and that your family will treasure long after senior year is over.
